Suman Gupta to curate a show on
Indian contemporary art in Cyprus

JAMMU. Nov 14-Suman Gupta, a nationally and internationally reputed painter of the State, has been invited by the Lalit Kala Academy to curate a show of Indian contemporary art in Nicosia, Cyprus. The show is being organised by the, Department of culture. govt of lndia in collaboration with the Cypriot Ministry of Education and culture.
The exhibition shall be inaugurated by the first lady of Cyprus on Nov 23 and shall remain open till December 1st ,2005. - The show is consisting of the works of some 34 notable artists of India such as Madhviparekh, Vasundra Tewari, Badri Naryan, R B Baskaran, Arpita Singh. K K Hebbar. Haku Shah, Arpana Kaur , T Vaikuntam, Bushan Kesar and Aftab Ahmed. The main purpose of the exhibition was to promote cultural relations between the two countries; Cyprus and India, the exhibition also offers a platform for the Indian artists to study for themselves some of the newer elements in art and to showcase their own works.
These works of art revealing an, awesome variety of materials, techniques, methods, styles and themes from different part of' the country serve a small but significant overview of the contemporary art in India. It may be mentioned here that Suman Gupta became the first ever Indian painter who exhibited his work in the United Nation Office in Geneva in the year 2002. He had also exhibited his works in Nehru center London, Millennium art show Manbattan, Dubai and some of the best galleries in India. His works have been collected by some of the leading art collector in India, as well as abroad.
